What is a SLI (speed limit information) retrofit?
Speed limit information (SLI) systems inform the driver of the current speed limit by displaying it on the dashboard and/or navigation system. SLI uses cameras to recognise road signs or use speed-limit data from the navigation system.
Can this be installed on my car?
SLI is supported on most F and G series BMW. You need to have a headunit with Navigation and maps activated. G series also require a windshield camera (KAFAS).
What is needed for this retrofit?
KAFAS. For G series you need to have a windshield camera (KAFAS2 or KAFAS4) on your car. On F series speed limit information data is pulled from maps on your Navigation system.

Remote coding session. You will need to code the car with an SLI option. If you are not familiar with BMW coding, we can code it for you safely. For the coding session, you need to have an ENET cable and a Windows laptop with an ethernet port and internet connection.
SLI module. It is used to bypass required FSC keys to enable the SLI function on BMW. Coding alone will not enable the SLI function, you need this module or OEM FSC keys.
Step 1. Add SLI option to your car’s FA list and code the related modules. Add 8TH to FA option list and code HU, KAFAS, KOMBI. You can also do FDL coding (for F series):
KOMBI L7_BASIS > 3000 > speed_limit = aktiv
KOMBI L7_BASIS > 3008 > KI_PIA_SPEED_LIMIT = aktiv
HU_NBT > EXBOX 3001 > SPEEDLIMIT_INFO = aktiv
Kafas2 > SLI_CODING 3010 > NPI_ON_OFF = F025 (or other model depending on your car)
Kafas2 > SLI_CODING 3010 > SLI_ON_OFF = F025 (or other model depending on your car)
After coding, lock the car for 20 min.
Step 2. Install an SLI module between cluster and original cluster cable:
Turn ignition OFF
Remove trims surrounding the cluster
Unscrew and remove the cluster
Unplug the original cable and connect the SLI module in between the cluster and the original cable.
Step 3. Test the new features. By now you should have a road sign visible on the cluster. Speed limits should show up when passing the road signs.
